Infiltration methods

Infiltration Methods In special forces, security, and private guarding, one of the most crucial factors for success in any military operation is the ability to remain undetected and penetrate enemy lines swiftly. Among the British Special Air Service (SAS), there are military units trained specifically for infiltrating into enemy territory on foot. These units operate only at night and hide during the day. However, there are more complex methods to reach the desired location and engage with the adversary. Click on the number in the illustration for more information.

1. **HAHO (High Altitude High Opening) Parachute Jumping**

Paratroopers who have undergone intensive training are the only ones capable of performing a HAHO jump from an altitude of around 30,000 feet. By jumping from such a high altitude, possibly across international borders, they minimize the chance of detection by enemy aircraft. At this altitude, which exceeds the height of Mount Everest, soldiers are equipped with oxygen and special clothing to protect against freezing temperatures. Within seconds of the jump, the team opens their parachutes and performs maneuvers to maintain their trajectory toward the target. Each team member must monitor their speed, direction, and anticipate the next step to stay in formation and head towards the intended target.

2. **HALO (High Altitude Low Opening) Parachute Jumping**

This jump differs from the HAHO method in that parachutes are not deployed until a lower altitude. The HALO jump, which is no less dangerous than the HAHO jump, requires the team to jump from at least 36,000 feet and approach as close to the target as possible while equipped with oxygen and special clothing. Paratroopers perform free-fall for the longest possible duration, penetrating the enemy’s radar zone, and delay opening their parachutes as much as possible. The parachutes automatically deploy at a pre-determined altitude to prevent the risk of hypoxia, which can cause loss of consciousness during descent. The team cannot carry any additional equipment except on a separate rope, which is lowered to the ground before their arrival.
